In 2015, we began researching additional ways to help control our son’s epilepsy. There was some great information about a diet treatment called a “Ketogenic diet” but everything we read talked about how impossible it was to stick with. Flash forward to late 2016, Aaron started hearing about how one of his favorite podcasters was using a diet to reverse his Type-2 diabetes by eating fat. This diet was a Ketogenic diet. Aaron began exploring how this diet, which was being used to treat a myriad of modern illnesses, but went against everything we’d known and been told about what is healthy.
After Sarah began researching it herself, she joined in, eventually we cut the kid’s sugar down. But we didn’t want to go full keto with them. But it wasn’t until our son’s seizures became more severe that we pursued using a ketogenic diet as a treatment option, a medication (as referred to by one of his dietitians).
We decided to do the Ketogenic diet as a family. There’s definitely been some challenges, but we are asking our sweet Savior to come alongside us as we pursue a different way of looking at food and health.
